MSCO – Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra
Masterworks: Respighi

Three Botticelli Pictures with Dvorák and Ravel
David Rutherford, Music Director and Conductor
presenting A Season of Masterworks

Friday, October 17, 7:30 p.m.
Colorado Christian Univ. Music Center

Saturday, October 18, 7:30 p.m.
Augustana Lutheran Church

The best stories do come in threes. Join us in exploring one of Respighi’s greatest works, the trilogy of tone poems evoking the beauty of three iconic paintings by Allessandro di Mariano di Vanni Filipepi, of Florence’s Uffizzi Gallery where Respighi found their inspiration so long ago. Each masterpiece has its own story, but Respighi’s great gift was the ability to create a musical narrative, capturing the drama of a visual and expressing it in music. Like the Respighi, Dvorák’s Serenade for Wind Instruments evokes an era of castles, nobility, and dances in the village. The other works on this program are also dances: Ravel’s Pavane for a Dead Princess is fairy-tale music, a processional created for a mythical event and the Mazurka (Village Scene by the Inn) by Anatol Liadov is one of his finest miniatures for small orchestra.

Adult $24 - Senior $15 - Student $15 - Children 5-12 yrs $8
