Linda Tillery and

The Cultural Heritage Choir

Linda Tillery and the Cultural Heritage Choir, an ensemble from Oakland California will perform a program of African American Spirituals, field hollers and slave songs. African American Spirituals have left an important legacy on the musical and social fabric of America. Originally written by African American slaves, they presented themes of hope, freedom, struggle, solace, and faith in the context of discrimination and oppression. An ensemble of The Spirituals Project Choir will open the show. Linda Tillery and Dr. Arthur Jones will facilitate a post- concert discussion.

Steinway Pianist Richard Glazier

Gershwin:  Remembrance and Discovery

“Gershwin's piano music finds an exquisite voice in Richard Glazier”

Clavier

Concert pianist Richard Glazier’s fascinating presentations weave commentary, film clips and piano performance into a glorious multimedia celebration that honors the brilliance of the great film composers, George Gershwin and Harold Arlen. As Glazier performs their songs in rare and brilliant transcriptions, the audience appreciates these musical geniuses as never before. Glazier’s signature finale, the complete solo piano version of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, pays tribute to a composer who inspired generations of American popular songwriters, and elevated the movie musical to its greatest heights.
