SEPTEMBER 10 (SAT) 7:30 PM Linda Tillery and The Cultural Heritage Choir Linda Tillery and the Cultural Heritage Choir, an ensemble from Oakland California will perform a program of African American Spirituals, field hollers and slave songs. African American Spirituals have left an important legacy on the musical and social fabric of America. Originally written by African American slaves, they presented themes of hope, freedom, struggle, solace, and faith in the context of discrimination and oppression. An ensemble of The Spirituals Project Choir will open the show. Linda Tillery and Dr. Arthur Jones will facilitate a post- concert discussion.
