The Augustana Winds are a chamber ensemble of the Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra and, like the Orchestra, the Quintet is supported and sponsored by Augustana Arts. Musica Sacra specializes in the presentation of baroque and early classical chamber music, although the Orchestra performs works from all time periods. Naturally, the repertoire of the Quintet mirrors that of the Orchestra. Over the past year, the quintet has focused on developing a more modern repertoire, getting away from the transcriptions and becoming more intimate with works originally written for quintet. The Quintet frequently performs at cultural and social events throughout the Denver Metropolitan area including performances at the The Museum of Nature and Science, People’s Fair, My Brother’s Bar concert series, Augustana Lutheran Church and a variety of corporate sponsored and private events. The members of the Augustana Winds represent an interesting variety of musical backgrounds and experiences. From the Milwaukee Philharmonic and the New England Conservatory to the world of law and accounting, they each add their own colorfulness to the group. They have performed concert tours in The Bahamas, Germany, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Austria, Italy, Scotland, England, Brazil, Mexico and Cuba and played performed in Carnegie Hall, Mozart’s Franziskane Kirche, Bach’s Stadt Kirche, Bach’s Herderkirche and St. Martin-in-the-Fields. |
