Denver Street Band Experience
April 19, 2026
Education + Performance
This April, we brought students from around the metro area together for a morning of learning as a part of the Denver Street Band Experience.
Middle and high-school aged students came together for tuition-free coachings, rehearsals, and mentorships from professional musicians performing in some of Denver’s best-known street bands. After a morning of education, the professional street bands hit the stage for an energetic performance, joined by students for the final three pieces of the concert.
Rhythm & Low Brass Sectional
Full Group Rehearsal
Finale performance of the song Happy, performed by 40 students and members of three brass bands: Guerrilla Fanfare, Gora Gora Orkestar and Out of Line Brass.
How did the students go from never having performed street band music to hitting the stage alongside professionals in one day? Follow along with the step-by-step process as students learn the song “Bella Ciao,” an Italian resistance song chosen by featured mentor ensemble Gora Gora Orkestar.
Inside the Learning Process
Step 1: Learning the Meaning
Trumpet students learn the message and the lyrics to the song. This session was led by Gora Gora’s trumpet player Tung Pham.
Step 2: Learning the Melody
Trombone students learn the melody, led by Gora Gora’s trombonist Caroline Siegel.
Step 3: Performing!
All students and all three ensembles hit the stage to perform Bella Ciao.
