The Story Behind Kurt

I chose to create the portrait of Kurt Cobain for the ArtiStandza charity project for several reasons. I have always been enamored with iconographic images of artistically influential individuals, particularly images which capture the raw emotion that is evident in their work. The original image (credit Frans Schellekens, photographer), in my mind, captures that raw emotion in spades. I have been thrilled to be selected as one of the artists to create a piece for Augustana Arts, and while the story of Cobain ends in what many consider a tragedy, I believe that bringing light to the issues surrounding suicide, particularly in the artist community, can hopefully benefit some. Also, it’s just a very cool image, and I hope I’ve done it justice.
